M1 / M1 Purlwise Tutorial:
m1a Lift the horizontal thread running between the stitch just knitted and the next stitch, and place it on the left hand needle.
m1b Knit the lifted thread through the back loop to M1. This creates a knit stitch.
m1c Purl the lifted thread through the back loop to M1 purlwise. This creates a purl stitch.
m1d The finished results.

I'm still surprised the pictures turned out so well. I had to figure out how to use the time delay on my camera again, and it took me about a dozen photos to remember to turn on the macro setting so that everything was in focus.
